“Come on Billy,” said Dianne Troll, his wife.” We have less than an hour before the Mother’s Day concert begins. It won’t look good if the promoter and the headline act are both late.”
“Yes true,” said Billy, packing up his guitar and getting ready to leave.
Just as Billy and Dianne were about to walk out the door, the phone rang.
“Hello Dad,” said Billy, answering the phone. “We will see you and Mother at the concert. We are just leaving now! “Your Mother has come down with the flu, “said Father. “She will not be able to make it.”
“Oh dear,” said Billy. “Maybe we should cancel it.”
“You can’t do that, “said Father. “Your mother would not want you to cancel it. She would be very disappointed if you did that.”
“Okay,” said Billy. “At least you will be able to watch it on the television.”
“Yes,” said Father.” We will definitely be doing that.”
“I really have to go,” said Billy, noticing that Dianne was already waiting for him in the limo. “Tell Mother we love her and hope she gets better soon. Tell her Happy Mother’s Day as well.”
“I will,” said Father.” Have fun tonight?”
Billy joined Dianne in the limo. As they drove to the concert hall, a song started coming to him. He took out a pad of paper and a pen and started writing it down.
This song is for you, Mom
I hope it makes you smile
I know you have the flu
I know you haven’t been sick in a while
Get well soon, Mom
Get well soon
You are missed at my concert
So, I sing to you this tune
Happy Mother’s Day, Mom
You mean the world to me
This song is for you Mom
You will get well soon, you will see
Billy quickly put the words to a tune and he practised the song during his sound check.
“I literally just finished writing this song,” said Billy into the microphone when he got on stage. “I want to dedicate this song to my mother, who couldn’t be here tonight because she is sick with the flu. Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.”
Billy sang his new song and the crowd loved it. He learned later that his Mother loved it too.
“That was a beautiful song, son,” said Mother when Billy and Dianne stopped by to see her the next day.
“It made her feel better,” said Father.
“Good,” said Billy, grabbing his guitar that he had brought with him. “Now for a live version, just for you.”
“Oh Billy,” cried Mother. “That was wonderful. Thank you so much!”
“Happy Mother’s Day, “said Billy.
“Thank you son,” said Mother. “I really am feeling so much better.”
