“I know she has been wanting to try that new restaurant,” said Sarah. “Why don’t I make reservations?”
“I will do it,” said Forgetful Fred.
“Are you sure?” asked Sarah.
“If you are worried that I will forget,” said Forgetful Fred. “I won’t. Mother is very important to me and besides, last Mother’s Day I forgot to cook dinner for her so I can’t forget this year or she will never forgive me.”
Okay,” said Sarah. “If you won’t forget to do it, then I will let you do it.”
The next day, Sarah called the restaurant to see if Forgetful Fred made the reservation.
“No reservation under that name,” said the waitress. “Would you like to make one?”
“I guess I better,” said Sarah. “If someone else with the same last name does call, then please cancel this one.”
“Yes,” said the waitress. “I will. It is a good thing you called when you did though. We are booking up fast. Mother’s Day is very busy.”
“Yes,” said Sarah. “I suppose it would be.”
Mother’s Day came and Forgetful Fred was waiting for his mother to show up.
“It will be nice trying out the new restaurant tonight,” said Sarah. “I have heard the food is amazing.”
Forgetful Fred’s face went pure white. He had a look of fear come over him.
“What is wrong?” asked Sarah. “You don’t look well all of a sudden.”
“Mother is going to kill me,” said Forgetful Fred. “I forgot to make the reservation.”
“I thought you might have,” said Sarah. “So, I made it for us.”
Forgetful Fred breathed a sigh of relief. Then he took Sarah into his arms and kissed her.
“How can you ever forgive me?” asked Forgetful Fred. “What would I ever do without you?”
Just then, Mother showed up at the door.
“We are taking you out for dinner at the new restaurant,” said Forgetful Fred.
“Wonderful!” exclaimed Mother. “I have wanted to try it out. Don’t we need reservations though?”
“Already taken care of,” said Sarah, saving Forgetful Fred’s dignity. “Forgetful Fred made them a few days ago.”
Forgetful Fred winked at Sarah as they were walking out the door.
“You saved the day, “said Forgetful Fred, whispering into Sarah’s ear. “Thank you!”
