Cold, Cold, Cold

Grade 3 Level Winter Stories

Hi there! My name is Peter. I am a penguin. I live in the Antarctic. It is very cold where l am right now because l am standing outside. I am getting my sled ready because l am going to go for a long, long trip. I am going to go see my friend, Sammy. It is his birthday soon and I want to give him the present I made for him.

Sammy is a polar bear. It’s okay. I know what you are thinking. You are probably thinking that since Sammy is a polar bear and since I am a penguin, there is no way that we can be friends. Even though he is big and powerful, Sammy is very gentle and kind.

Sammy lives a long distance away from me. He lives in the Arctic, which is at the opposite end of the world to where I live. Now again, I know what you are thinking. You are probably thinking that we live too far away to be friends. However, when you have a friendship as special as what Sammy and I have, distance is not an issue.

Pretty soon, I was ready to go. It was going to be a long, cold ride. It could take me a few months or longer to reach the Arctic, depending on the weather. I just hope Sammy will be home when I get there, otherwise I would have to just turn around and come back home. You see, in the Antarctic, we have no telephones or mail delivery and we don’t even have email, so, if we want to talk to someone, we have to physically go see them.

I was so happy when I finally reached the Arctic and I was very pleased that Sammy was home when I got there. I was very cold when I arrived.

“I have just the thing to warm you up,” said Sammy. “How about a nice bowl of homemade soup?”

Sammy’s homemade soup was delicious and it warmed me up right away.

I had a really nice visit with Sammy at his house. Sammy really liked his birthday present that I made him. It was a picture of a polar bear that I drew myself.

“Thank you,” said Sammy. “I love this picture.”

“I must be getting back home now,” I said. “I have a very long walk ahead of me.”

“Yes,” said Sammy. “I do understand. Have a safe walk home.”

“I will,” I said, waving goodbye to Sammy.

Moral of this Story:

  • Sometimes we sacrifice a lot for our friends.
  • Example: Peter Penguin lived on the opposite side of the world from his friend, Sammy Polar Bear. That didn’t stop him from visiting with him.
