Ron lives on the neighbouring farm up the road. to himself one autumn afternoon. “I know we just had daylight savings time but it is much too early in the day to be so dark.”
Lonely Scarecrow kept his eyes peeled to the sky. He soon found out the dark sky was not caused by daylight savings time. He found out the dark sky was caused by a flock of crows.
“Oh dear,” said Lonely Scarecrow. “I hope they just keep flying.”
Lonely Scarecrow watched while holding his breath as the crows flew by. They were almost all past him before one crow spotted him.
“Well,” said the crow as it flew down and sat on the fence, right beside Lonely Scarecrow.
“Looks like I found a scarecrow. Where there are scarecrows, there are usually cornfields.”
“There are no cornfields here, ” said Lonely Scarecrow, knowing that he was lying to the crow but also knowing he couldn’t willingly let the crow know there were cornfields.
“I think I will find that out myself,” said the crow.
“No you won’t,” said Lonely Scarecrow.
“And, who is going to stop me,” said the crow.” You are just a shirt stuffed with straw.”
“I am a lot more than that,” said Lonely Scarecrow, sitting up as tall as he could and making the scariest face that he could.
“Okay,” said the crow, who was scared. “I am getting out of here. You are too scary for me.”
Lonely Scarecrow was very pleased with himself as he watched the crow leave and the sky return to a bright blue colour.
