“Hi Matilda,” said Angela Ant, stopping by Matilda’s house.
“Hi,” said Matilda, in a grumpy voice. “I am very busy and I don’t have time for chit chat.”
Angela saw Matilda standing over top of a large black cauldron. She was stirring the contents of it vigorously “What are you cooking?” asked Angela.
“I am working on a new spell,” said Matilda. “I am going to make it very hot outside.”
“You can’t,” said Angela. “You know Summer Sun is in charge of summer weather.”
“I don’t think she is doing her job properly,” said Matilda. “I need heat. It has been much too cool lately.”
“Summer Sun has reasons why she does what she does to the weather,” said Angela. “She doesn’t want the grass and plants to dry up.”
“I don’t care,” said Matilda. “I will make it so hot that we won’t be able to stand it and you are going to help!”
“I will have no part of this,” said Angela, walking away.
Angela walked over to see Summer Sun. While she was walking, she saw Matilda on her front lawn. She was casting her spell. By the time she reached Summer Sun’s house it was so hot, it was unbearable.
“I didn’t turn the thermostat up today,” said Summer Sun, when she saw how much Angela was suffering from the heat.
“Matilda cast a spell,” said Angela.
“Oh dear,” said Summer Sun. “It is much too hot.”
“Is there anything you can do?” asked Angela.
Summer Sun was already working on the thermostat. She decided to make it rain.
“Why rain?” asked Angela.
“For one, it will cool things down quick,” said Summer Sun.
“And two, the rain will wash Matilda’s spell away.”
Summer Sun and Angela laughed. Matilda was very angry and no matter what, she couldn’t get her spell to work because it was waterlogged with all the rain.
