“Hey Spot,” said Fawn and Spot live on a ranch in Calgary, Alberta. They are owned by Mr. and Mrs. Hansen and their children Jenny and Ricky.. “Want to go to the cave we saw yesterday?”
“But Mr. Hansen told us to stay away from it,” said Spot. “He said it is dangerous and that there could be wild animals living in it.”
“It sure looked empty to me though,” said Fawn.
“Yes,” said Spot. “It did. I have to admit that.”
“What is wrong with just checking it out?” asked Fawn. “I promise I won’t go inside.”
“Promise?” asked Spot.
“Yes,” said Fawn. “I promise.”
“Then I guess it would be okay,” said Spot.
Fawn and Spot live on a ranch in Calgary, Alberta. They are owned by Mr. and Mrs. Hansen and their children Jenny and Ricky. walked through the field and then over to the mountains. They found the cave that they had seen the day before. Fawn immediately went over to the entrance and ran inside. Before Spot could say anything to him, Fawn came screaming out of the cave toward Spot. He was so frightened, he was shaking.
“What happened?” asked Spot. “What did you see?”
“I saw a great big thing with big bulging eyes and big black wings,” screamed Fawn.
Just then, Spot saw a little black bat fly from out of the mouth of the cave and right above her head.
“Fawn,” said Spot. “Was this thing about eight inches long?”
“Yeah,” said Fawn. “I mean no. It was bigger than that, much bigger.”
“Fawn,” said Spot. “I’m pretty sure that all you saw was a bat.”
“Yes,” said the bat. “It was me that you saw in the cave.”
“You shouldn’t have scared me,” said Fawn.
“You scared me,” said the bat. “I was having a nice peaceful sleep until you came along.”
“Sorry,” said Fawn.
“Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to play around caves?” said the bat.
“Yes,” said Fawn. “But I was just curious.”
“Just be careful,” said the bat. “You never know what could be living inside these caves.”
“Who lives in your cave?” asked Fawn.
“Just me,” said the bat.
“Really,” said Fawn. “Just you. Aren’t you a little selfish having a whole cave to yourself?”
“No,” said the bat. “I’m not selfish. It is my cave.”
“Can I go inside it?” asked Fawn.
“I don’t want strangers inside my cave,” said the bat.
“Oh,” said Fawn. “Well, my name is Fawn and this is my friend, Spot.”
“My name is Batty is a bat that Fawn and Spot found in a cave.,” said the bat.
“So,” said Fawn. “Can we go inside your cave?”
“Sure,” said Batty. “Now that we aren’t strangers.”
Fawn and Spot went to the cave and Batty gave them a tour of it.
“It is nice and cool inside,” said Spot.
“Yes,” said Batty. “But I like it that way.”
“I like how that water drips down the cave walls,” said Fawn.
Fawn and Spot spent lots of time with Batty. They made friends quickly with each other. In fact, Batty even invited Fawn and Spot to his upcoming Halloween party.
