Anything But Strawberries

Fawn and Spot Stories, Grade 2 Level, Summer Stories, Summer Story Challenge 2016

FawnFawnFawn and Spot live on a ranch in Calgary, Alberta. They are owned by Mr. and Mrs. Hansen and their children Jenny and Ricky. was in the kitchen with Spot. He was helping her make her homemade strawberry jam.

“Taste it,” said Spot, putting some on a spoon and handing it to Fawn.

“Yummy,” said Fawn. “This is so good. The best strawberry jam I have ever tasted.”

“Thank you,” said Spot.

“Can I have some more?” asked Fawn.

“Sure,” said Spot. “Why don’t you have some on a piece of toast?”

“That sounds really good,” said Fawn. “I would love some.”

Spot made Fawn a couple of pieces of toast and spread a generous amount of jam on each slice. Fawn ate them all up.

Later that day, Jenny Hansen, one of Fawn and Spot’s owners, brought some homemade strawberry tarts down to the barn for Fawn to try.

“I love summer,” said Fawn.

“Why is that?” asked Jenny.

“Because it is strawberry season,” said Fawn. “Strawberries are so good.”

“Just don’t eat too many all at once,” said Jenny. “Too many strawberries will give you a tummy ache.”

Jenny went back up to the house. Fawn ate one of her strawberry tarts.

“This is so good,” said Fawn. “I will eat one more.”

Fawn ate one more but it was so good that he just had to eat another one.

That night after dinner, Mrs. Hansen brought Fawn a bowl of fresh strawberries and cream. It was so good that Fawn licked the bowl clean. He didn’t want to waste a single drop.

That night, Fawn did have a bad tummy ache. He was quite sick. He realized that he had eaten way too many strawberries.

The next morning, Spot had some homemade strawberry muffins sitting on the kitchen counter.

“Have one,” said Spot.

“No,” said Fawn. “I will have anything but strawberries.”

“Fawn,” said Spot. “Just how many strawberries did you eat yesterday?”

“Way too many,” said Fawn. “Way too many.”

Moral of this Story:
